SPIRIT ESSENCE

GOOGOO LORE

Gooseberry is a 4-5 year old pastel orange moron. He was adopted semi spontaneously (I was looking for a third cat to balance out the energy of a kitten vs. a grumpy old man) from a pet store that features adoptable guys from the local shelters.
He started making biscuits when we made eye contact. Apparently they're not supposed to just let you walk out with a cat, but I guess our enthusiastic pet nerd conversation with the clerk gave her good vibes, because I left with him an hour later.

His sob story, as I was told, is that he was a housecat for the first year or two of his life;
a spoiled one, I think, because he has both the incredibly social personality and gross suckling habits of a kitten removed from mom too early and doted on. His first owners sucked shit though because they left him behind during a move in the early pandemic.
Also, they didn't fix him, so strike two.
He was fed by an older man for a while before he died from COVID and his wife brought Goose to the local pound because she couldn't afford kibble solo.

I do wish I had more info there, because I sometimes think on what I would say to that fella's widow--I wish I could let her know what a cool little guy Goose turned into, and how being kind to him probably saved his life. He was pretty underweight and anemic from fleabites...and has the most pronounced eating disorder I ever seen in a cat, which I wasn't entirely sure was possible. The lad is simply desperate to consume every scrap of food in sight until he barfs or shits himself. Fortunately, being generous with wet food thinned down with a bit of water does the trick of getting him full nowadays without making him a living shitfart machine.
